— Mrs. J. Warkentine of Geary, Okla., was laid to her final resting place there last Thursday afternoon, Nov. 1. Mr. [sic] Warkentine died at an Oklahoma City hospital after having submitted to two operations. Funeral services were held in the Geary high school auditorium, Rev. Henry Hege of Gotebo officiating.

Mrs. Sara Warkentin

Mrs. Sarah Suderman Warkentin was born on July 18, 1871, in Berdjansk, S. Russia. She received her education in the common schools of Russia and also attended Bethel College, Newton, Kans. On May 30, 1885, she immigrated with her parents to America where they settled in Newton, Kans. In the year 1888 she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Elder Jacob Toews and joined the First Mennonite church in Newton. She was employed as a nurse at the Goessel Hospital for one year. She was married to John H. Warkentin Nov. 11, 1900. The union was blessed with 4 children, two sons and two daughters, all living at this time.

At the time of her marriage she joined the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel, Kans., where the family lived until they moved to Gotebo, Okla., in 1902. In 1915 they moved back to Kansas, where they lived on a farm north of Newton. In 1919 they moved to Geary, Okla., where they lived until she was called to her eternal home. Her death was caused by complications due to chronic and acute appendicitis. She died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1934, in the Polyclinic Hospital in Okla. city with the family present. Her age was 63 years, 3 months and 12 days. Her death is mourned by her husband John H. Warkentin, four children, Mrs. Ida Miles of Weskan, Kansas; Arthur Warkentin, Weatherford, Okla., Alma Warkentin, Elk City, Okla.; and Herman Warkentin of Geary; one sister Mrs. P. P. Janzen, Newton, Kansas; two brothers Herman Suderman, Newton, Kansas and Solomon, New York, and two grandchildren John McKay and Margaret Ann Miles, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Warkentin was an untiring worker at home and in church and her passing is keenly felt by all. We mourn but not as those who have no hope. We feel secure that we all shall celebrate a great and happy reunion when parting and death shall be no more. — The Family.
