Helena Nachtial [sic Nachtigal] Voth, was born Jan 9, 1855, in the village of Waldheim, South Russia. Her father, Jacob Nachtigal, died when she was about 14 years of age in 1869, and later her mother was married to Abr. Richert. Thus again it was the privilege of our mother to fully enjoy the blessing of a Christian home. At the age of 16, she accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour, and was baptized on the day of Pentecost 1871 and received into the Alexanderwohl church by the Elder Jacob Buller.
She was married to Johann Voth in 1873, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for 45 years, 11 months and 13 days.
In 1874 our parents came to America and established their home in Reno County, Kansas, where they shared the joys and hardships of pioneer life. To uphold and further spiritual welfare, they helped to establish the Hoffnungsau church, in which they always took an active part until 1920 when the Buhler Mennonite church was organized, whose faithful member she remained until her death.
