Pred. Heinrich P. Unruh, Sohn von Pred. Peter T. und Maria Siebert Unruh, ward am 25. Febr. 1865 in Kalswalde [sic Karlswalde], Rußland geboren und kam 1874 mit Eltern nach Newton, Kansas. Hier wohnten sie im Immigrantenhaus und zogen im März 1875 nach Yankton, S. Dakota und von dort nach Marion, S. D. wo sie eine Heimstätte aufnahmen. Hier verlebte der nun Heimgerufene seine Jugendjahre. 1882 ward er von Aelt. Fr. Schartner getauft und später Glied der Bethesda Mennonitenge. nahe Marion. Im April 1888 zog er nach Avon, schloß sich der Friedensberg-Gemeinde an und blieb treues Glied. Er spürte den Ruf des Herrn und ward am 12. Febr. 1889 ordiniert und durfte 46 Jahre dem Herrn und seiner Gemeinde dienen. Am 18. Febr. 1886 heiratete er seiner jetzt um ihn trauernde Witwe Helena Schulz. Diese Ehe ward gesegnet mit 8 Kindern von denen noch leben: Benjamin, der Arzt, Emery, S. Dak.; Peter, Avon, S. D.; Anthony, Bloomfield, Mont.; Elisabeth, und Anna, daheim; und Wilhelm, Avon; dazu 14 Enkel, 10 Urenkel; 4 Brüder und 2 Schwestern. Der Herr rief ihn zu sich nach schweren Krebsleiden am 1. Dez. 1944 im Alter von 79 J. 9 M. und 6 Tagen. Er hatte einen festen Halt an seinem Heiland, denn er wußte an wen er glaubte. Das Begräbnis fand am 4. Dez. statt auf dem Friedhof nahe der Kirche. Worte des Trostes sprachen Pred. H. U. Schmidt, Meno, Okla., David A. Schultz, Saginaw, Mich. Text 2 Tim. 4:7-8 und Alfred P. Waltner, Marion, S. D. Text 2 Kor. 5:1 - 10.

South Dakota Minister Called Away in Death

ORDAINED IN 1889 AND SERVED IN MINISTRY
FOR FORTY-SIX YEARS

Avon, S. D. — Rev. Hein. P. Unruh, pioneer minister who lived in this community since 1888, died here December 1, 1944. Rev. Unruh, who reached the age of 79 years, was born at Karlswalde, Russia, February 25, 1865.

He came to America with his parents in 1874, later lived at Yankton and at Marion before coming in this community. He was ordained into the ministry of the Gospel February 12, 1889, and served in this office for 46 years.

Rev. Unruh and his wife, Helena Schultz Unruh, to whom he was married February 18, 1886, celebrating their golden wedding nine years ago. Funeral services were held at the Friedenberg [sic] church, of which Rev. Unruh was a member.

Rev. Henry P. Unruh, son of Rev. Peter T. and Marie Siebert Unruh, was born in Karlswalde, Russia, on February 25, 1865. In 1874 he migrated to Newton, Kansas, with his parents. Here they lived in the immigrant house. In 1875 they moved to Yankton, South Dakota, and from there to Marion. Here he spent his youth and here he was baptized by Elder F. Schartner and later accepted as a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church. In 1888 he moved to Avon, where he joined the Friedensberg Church. He felt the call of the Lord, and in 1889 he was ordained. For forty-six years he served this church. In 1886 he married Helena Schulz, who now survives him. He died December 1, 1944, and is mourned by his wife and the following children: Dr. Benjamin Unruh, Emery, South Dakota; Peter Unruh, Avon; Anthony Unruh, Bloomfield, Montana; Elizabeth and Anna of the home; and William Unruh, Avon.
