text of obituary:

DAVID S. UNRUH

David S. Unruh, son of Jacob and Anna Schmidt Unruh was born Aug. 1, 1869, in the village Alexanderwohl in South Russia. At the age of five years he came with his parents to America. They made their home in Marion county, Kansas, where he has resided ever since.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith May 18, 1891, and was received as a member into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church. When, in 1908, the Tabor Mennonite church was organized he transferred to this church as a charter member and remained faithful until death.

He was married Jan. 15, 1896, to Wilhelmina Schmidt, with whom he shared joy and sorrow for 50 years, six months and nine days. To this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters. One son, Jacob, preceded him in death at the age of three years. Those remaining with the wife and mother are Bernhard, Peabody, David D., Hillsboro, Marie, Mrs. Jacob E. Schmidt, Henry and Minnie, Mrs. Herman Martins, all of Newton. Also 16 grandchildren, of whom two preceded him in death. He also leaves four brothers, two sisters, and two uncles: Heinrich J. Unruh, Peter J. Unruh, Johann A. Unruh, Anna, Mrs. P. U. Schmidt, William Unruh, Maria, Mrs. J. A. Voth, Uncle Johann Schmidt and Uncle Abraham Schmidt.

On Jan. 15 of this year he and his wife had the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Since December, 1941, he had suffered from a stroke which paralyzed his left side and affected his speech to a great extent, but he bore his afflictions patiently and without complaint. He was bedfast the last six days and in a coma the last day. On Wednesday morning, July 24, he was relieved of his suffering and called to his reward at 1:10 a. m. He reached the age of 76 years, 11 months and 23 days.
