Mrs. Anna Unruh

Mrs. Anna Unruh, nee Jantz, daughter of Peter and Katherina Jantz, was born January 12, 1852, at Karolswalde, by Ostroga, in Poland, Russia, and died at 2:30 a.m., July 6, 1940, at the age of 88 years, 5months, and 14 days.

She was baptized upon confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on November 17, 1867, by the Elder Tobias Unruh, and received into fellowship of the Mennonite church at Karolswalde.

She was united in marriage on January 29, 1874, with Henry A. Unruh, who died July 19, 1920. They were privileged to live and share together the joys and sorrows of holy wedlock for 46 years, 5 months, and 20 days. She lived as widow 19 years, 11 months, and 13 days.

To this union were born 12 children: 9 sons and 3 daughters, of which one son Adam preceded her in death in 1935.

They emigrated from Russia to America when many left the country for religious freedom in 1874, and came to Kansas and settled in McPherson county, where they established a home. Later they moved to Marion county, where she lived till her death.

She was taken into the Friedenstal Mennonite church on March 26, 1913.

She leaves to mourn her departure 8 sons, and 9 daughters-in-law, 3 daughters, and 3 sons-in-law: Peter, Cornelius, and Lizzie (Mrs. Eli Schmidt) of Montezuma; Tobias, David, and Dan of Tampa; Jacob and mrs. Adam H. Unruh of Durham; Andrew of Pawnee Rock; Lena (Mrs. Walter Unruh) of Great Bend; Susie (Mrs. Leo Unruh) of Cimarron, and Ben of Newton, Kansas; also 72 grandchildren, and 104 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ben Becker, Meno, Oklahoma, and many relatives and friends. Eleven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

We have lost our dear, sweet mother,
She no more on earth shall roam,
And there'll never be another,
Who can take her place at home.

Mother's life was true and faithful
And her heart was filled with love;
Trusting Jesus as her Saviour,
Till she joined Him up above.

Some day we shall go to meet her
Where there'll be no more good-byes.
We can think of nothing sweeter
Than our meeting in the skies.

O dear mother, how we'll miss you
But no more on earth you'll roam;
Some sweet day we'll all be with you
In that bright eternal home.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, July 9, at the Friedenstal church.
