Anna Flickner Strauß, Tochter von Benj. und Freni Goering Flickner, wurde geboren den 6. April 1887 und starb den 3. Januar 1943, im Alter von 55 Jahren, 8 Monaten und 28 Tagen. Auf das Bekenntnis ihres Glaubens an Jesus Christus wurde sie am 18. Mai 1902 von Aeltester C. J. Göring getauft und aufgenommen als Glied der Eden Mennonitengemeinde, deren treues Glied sie blieb. Am 3. Nov. 1910 trat sie in den heiligen Ehestand mit Peter J. Strauß. Diese Ehe wurde mit 8 Kindern gesegnet; 3 sind ihr im Tode vorangegangen. 32 Jahre und 2 Monate konnten sie die Lebenserfahrungen miteinander teilen, die letzten Jahre mußte sie viel leiden an Zuckerkrankhit und Brights Disease. Vor 3 Jahren verlor sie das Augenlicht; das letzte Jahr konnte sie das Heim wenig verlassen. Am Weihnachtstage brachte mann sie ins Hospital wo sie auch starb. Geduldig im Leiden, wartete sie auf ihr Heimgehen. Sie hinterläßt ihren Gatte; 5 Kinder, 2 Schwiegersöhne u. 1 Schwiegertochter: Lorene u. Leonard Graber, Pretty Prairie; Selma u. Rudy Klassen, Newton; Orlando u. Marie Dörksen Strauß, Buhler; Melvin und Ruth, daheim; 5 Großkinder; ihre Mutter; 4 Schwestern; 2 Brüder und viele Freunde. Die Begräbnisfeier fand statt den 5. Jan. in der Eden Kirche wobei Rev. Sam J. Göring, Rev. Walter Gering und Rev. P. A. Penner dienten.

Nun nahm Er ihre Hände und führte sie.
Er sprach. Du bist am Ende, nun bin ich hie.
Du wollt’st allein nicht gehen, nicht einen Schritt.
Ich hab erhört Dein Flehen, und nahm Dich mit.
In Meine Gnade hüllte Ich sanft Dich ein.
Dein Sehnen all ich stillte. Du bist daheim.
Du lerntest still vertrauen. Nun reut’s Dich nicht;
Ruh sanft im selgen Schauen, im ewigen Licht.

ANNA FLICKNER STRAUSZ

Anna Flickner Strausz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Flickner, was born on the 6th day of April, 1887, on the farm 3 miles west of Moundridge. She received her elementary educational training in the district schools. On the 18th of May, 1902, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. c. J. Goering and became a member of the Eden Mennonite church of which she remained a faithful member until death. On the 3rd of November 1910, she was united in holy wedlock with Peter J. Stausz with whom she was permitted to share life's experiences for 32 years and 2 months. Eight children were born to this union of whom three preceded her in death. her father and one grandchild also preceded her. For a number of years her health was failing due to diabetes and about three years ago she began to lose her eyesight, spending the last years of her earthly life in blindness. brights disease also appeared an the last year she was confined almost entirely to her home. On Christmas day she was taken to the hospital for treatment and remained until her departure on the morning of January 3rd, 1943. She attained the age of 55 years, 8 months and 28 days. She leaves to mourn her departure: her husband; 5 children, 2 sons-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law; Lorene and Leonard Graver, Pretty Prairie; Selma and Rudy Klassen, Newton; Orlando and Marie Strausz, Buhler; and Melvin and Ruth of the home; her mother; 4 sisters, 2 brothers; 5 grandchildren; 5 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; many relatives and friends. She submitted patiently to her sufferings and having made her farewells with the faily and relatives she prayed that the Saviour might take her unto Himself.

Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at the Eden Mennonite church, at which words of comfort were spoken by Rev. Walter Gering and Rev. Sam Goering, and at the cemetery by Rev. P. A. Penner and Rev. Walter Gering. The men's chorus and a male quartet rendered some of her favorite songs.

The following is one of the songs which she composed during her illness:

Jesus Is My dearest Friend

Sometimes when my my [sic] heart is filled with sadness
And I do not know what to do,
I take my burdens up to Jesus
And He is so glad that I do.

Sometimes i think my cross is too heavy
And I can not bear it alone.
He then comes and takes the heavier end
And carries it on to the Throne.

Some day I'll lay my burdens down;
Some day I'll understand.
Some day then I will wear a crown,
When I join the better land.

Some day I'll lay my burdens down
To carry them no more.
Sometime to see the Heaven there
and see my heavenly Home.

Chor: Oh Jesus is my dearest Friend,
The dearest friend I know.
He understands and comforts me
And that is where I go.

ANNA FLICKNER STRAUSZ, April 6, 1887, to January 3, 1943, was born on a farm three miles west of Moundridge, Kansas. In 1902 she was baptized by Rev. C. J. Goering and became a member of the Eden Mennonite Church. In 1910 she was united in marriage to Peter J. Strausz, who now survives her with five children.
