John J. Soldner

Berne, Indiana, Jan. 21. — John J. Soldner, age 74, one of the best known men of Monroe township, died at his home 4 miles northwest of Berne at 2:15 A. M. Friday morning. A staff of five physicians from various parts of the county conducted a postmortem on the body of John J. Soldner Saturday forenoon. Cancer was found on the liver and gall bladder, which disease is believed to have caused his death, although Mr. Soldner had ailed with other complications.

Mr. Soldner was a native of Wabash township, being born on Aug. 23, 1854, bringing his age to 74 years, 4 months an 20 days. He was a son of John Soldner, his father being a native of France.

He was married to Katherina Huser on September 18, 1876. She survives him, but is also in poor health and has been an invalid for two years. They lived on their present homestead during all of their married life.

Three of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Soldner survive. They are: Mrs. C. C. Moser of Geneva; John C. who with his family reside on the old homestead, and Noah of Pandora, Ohio. Ten grand children also survive.

Brothers and sisters who survive are David, Samuel, Mrs. Barbara Lehman, and Mrs. William Baumgartner all of this vicinity, and Jonas of Fresno., California.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:15 from the house, and at 2 o'clock from the Mennonite church. Burial was mdde in the M. B. E. cemetery.
