Dr. P. R. Schroeder Called Away in Death, Telegram Reports

HAD RECENTLY MOVED TO MOUNTAIN LAKE, MINN.; WAS PASTOR OF BETHEL CHURCH

A telegram received this morning by Rev. C. E. Krehbiel, president of the General Conference of N. A., brought the message of the death of Dr. P. R. Schroeder of Mountain Lake, Minn. According to the telegram, Dr. Schroeder died this morning at 8:20. Funeral services are to be held Friday, evidently at the Bethel church at Mountain Lake.

Dr. Schroeder was widely known in General Conference circles, having served two terms as conference president. He died in the community where he was born on August 22, 1888. One of his first pastorates was the large Mennonite church at Berne, Ind., where he served from 1912 to 1928. From 1928 to 1936 he was associated with Freeman College at Freeman, S. D. , at the same time serving also as pastor of the Salem Mennonite church there, which he continued until he was called to Mountain Lake.

In 1936 he was conference delegate to the Third World Congress of Mennonites held in Holland. Among positions held by him were — chairman of various district conferences, General Conference secretary, and a member of committee on Doctrine and Conduct.

During recent years he submitted to several operations, however, was considered in fair health until a few weeks ago when new complications set in which resulted in his death.
