Daniel J. Schrag

Monroe, Washington, April 24. — Daniel J. Schrag, 78, died Thursday afternoon, about 6 o’clock, at his home on South Lewis street. Mr. Schrag suffered a stroke Monday afternoon while out in the yard. His life hung in the balance for three days, and he seemed to improve a little after the stroke. Mr. Schrag had seemed quite well and did considerable garden work up till the time of his stroke. Daniel J. Schrag was born in October, 1847, in Waldheim, Russia. He has been a resident of Monroe or vicinity for over six years, having moved into the town from the country about two years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Schrag came to this section of Washington from Ritzville in 1919. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Fannie Schrag, of Monroe, one son, J. L. Schrag, seven daughters, Mrs. M. J. Welty of Reedly, [sic] Calif., Mrs. A. Kauffman of Monroe, the Misses Marie Schrag of Monroe, Carrie, Laura, Rose and Lavina Schrag of Ritzville and two brothers, Christian Schrag of Odessa and Andrew Schrag of Colfax. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Mennonite church, the Rev. P. A. Kliewer officiating. Interment will be in the Monroe cemetery.
