Andrew J. Schrag

Andrew John Schrag was born in Volinia, Russia, June 21, 1864. He died on April 6, 1938, at the age of74 years, 9 months, and 15 days.

At the age of 10 years he migrated from Russia to America with his parents, locating in South Dakota in 1874. He left South Dakota at the age of 18, locating at Dallas, Oregon, residing there until 1900. At the age of 25 he was united in marriage to Caroline Grenz by Rev. Jacob Schrag. This union was blessed with 8 living children.

In 1900 they and 3 other families came by covered wagon to the Menno district in Washington where they homesteaded. He ha been residing in Monroe, Washington for the past 16 years. His last seven months were spent in the Menno District on his home place. He was baptized by his grandfather, Rev. John Schrag, when he was 15 years old and became an actual member of the Mennonite church. He leaves to mourn his passing, his bereaved wife, Mrs. Carolin Schrag; 8 children, Mrs. A. J. Graber of Odessa , Washington; Mrs. Chas Kaufman, Marion, S. Dakota; Mrs. Sam Wiese, Leader, S. Dakota; Mrs. Corey Raymond, Everett, Washington; Mrs. Herb Schwartz, Edmonds, Washington; John Schrag, Portland, Oregon; Leonard Schrag and Alvin Schrag of Monroe, Washington; three brothers and five sisters, and twenty-six grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Menno Mennonite church April 10. Interment was made in the cemetery near the church, Rev. M. J. Galle officiating.
