Mrs. Sara Koehn Schmidt

Mrs. Sara Koehn Schmidt was born on January 18, 1881, in Marion Co., Kansas. Her parents were Cornelius Koehn and Wilhelmina Lehrman. The early years of her life were spent in the home of her parents. She was baptized on May 29, 1898, upon the confession of her faith by the elder Peter Balzer and joined the Alexanderwohl Church, where she was a faithful member at the time of her death.

She was married to Bernhard H. Schmidt on January 28, 1910. With this marriage she took upon herself the responsibility of a mother over two children from a former marriage of her husband. This union was blessed with three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter.

About four years ago a cancer was noticed and we did all we could do to get control of the malady, but the Lord's plan was different. We went to a hospital for a special cancer treatment at Muscatine, Iowa. Here we spent nine months and then five weeks more in Lone Tree, Iowa. when we returned she felt much improved but this was only of short duration. When her condition entered into a new sage we consulted a physician in Wichita, Kansas.

She was bedfast only the last few days. She had a cheerful disposition and carried her affliction with patience. Her faith was securely anchored in Christ our Redeemer. In Muscatine, Iowa, she made many friends who were afflicted with the same malady as she was. Many prayers were sent to the throne of grace for her by these Christian friends. God answered and gave her strenght [sic] to be patient in suffering and called her home before the suffering became too severe.

She entered into her eternal rest on July 29, 1936, at 10:20 p. m. at the age of 55 years, six months and 11 days. She lived in the state of matrimony 26 years, 6 months and 1 day.

She leaves to mourn her departure: Her husband, Bernhard H. Schmidt, the children — Mr. and Mrs. Arthur K. Schmidt, John Schmidt, Mrs. Mary and Mr. Leland Truax, Bernhard Schmidt and Cornelius Schmidt, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 4 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, and many relatives and friends.

"You're not dead to us, dear mother.
Tho' in this world no more we meet;
We know you're waiting for us, mother,
At the blessed Savior's feet."

Funeral Services were held on August 2, 1936, at 2:30 p. m. at the Alexanderwohl Church. Rev. C. C. Wedel conducted the services in German with Prov. 10-28 as his text, while Rev. P. H. Unruh led the English service, his text being Rev. 7, 10-17. Two male quartets sang several songs.
