Mary Ethel Goering, Tochter von David J. u. Fannie Goering, ward am 16. Sept. 1918 zu Moundridge, Kansas geboren wo sie aufwuchs. Sie graduierte von der Hochschule und besuchte Bethel College. Am 4. Juni 1933 ward sie von Aelt. C. J. Goering getauft und in die Eden Gemeinde aufgenommen wo sie Glied blieb. Etliche Jahre war sie als S. S. Lehrerin, Chorleiterin und Pianist in der Gemeinde tätig. Am 13. Febr. 1944 heiratete sie Aaron Schmidt. Am 27. Nov. 1945 wurde ihnen ein Söhnchen geboren, sie mußte sich aber einer Operation unterziehen, welcher sie am 11. Dezember erlag. Sie war bereit dem Rufe zu folgen, war aber sehr besorgt um ihre Kindlein. Sie ward 27 J. 2 M. und 25 Tage alt und hinterläßt nebst Gatten und Söhnlein, ihre Eltern, 1 Schwester, 3 Brüder und viele Freunde ihr frühes Scheiden zu betrauern, aber nicht als solche, die keine Hoffnung haben. Das Begräbnis fand statt bei Freeman, S. D. wo sie auf einer Farm wohnten.

— Word has been received here that Mrs. Aaron Schmidt of Marion, South Dakota, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Goering, Moundridge, passed away after a several-days illness. Her husband, parents, brothers and sisters were at her bedside when death came. Funeral services were held at Freeman, S. D., on Friday, December 14.

MARY ETHEL SCHMIDT

Mrs. Mary Ethel Schmidt, nee Goering, daughter of David J. and Fannie Goering, was born September 16, 1918, in Moundridge, McPherson county, Kansas. There she spent her childhood days and grew to womanhood.

She graduated from the Moundridge high school and attended Bethel College, Newton, for two years. She was employed part time at the county treasurer’s office for about three years and for over three years more she was employed by the U. S. government as typist in the Department of Internal Revenue at Wichita until she with her husband, moved to South Dakota, locating there on a farm.

On June 4, 1933, she was baptized on confession of her faith in her Lord and Saviour by Elder C. J. Goering, and united with the Eden Mennonite church near Moundridge of which she was a faithful member until her departure. She took part in church activities, being a Sunday School teacher, choir director and pianist for several years.

On February 13, she was united in Holy Wedlock with Aaron Schmidt, with whom she was privileged to share the joys and sorrows for 22 months, less two days.

To this union was born a son, Douglas Dean, on November 27, 1945. Conditions made it necessary for her to submit to an operation, which she did not survive. It was with hopeful anticipation that she awaited the blessed event, but it was not to have been her privilege to live to enjoy the same. She was ready to heed the call, but expressed much concern about her child.

She passed away peacefully at the hospital at Yankton, S. D., on December 11, 1945, at the age of 27 years, 2 months and 25 days.

She leaves to mourn her early departure, her husband and infant son, her parents, one sister, three brothers, (one brother having preceded her in death) her parents-in-law, four brothers-in-law, five sister-in-law, one aged grandmother and many relatives and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter and sister.
