Annie Gertrude Schmidt

Our daughter, Annie Gertrude Schmidt, was born August 18, 1922. She was the third and also second youngest child in our family. God had endowed her with rich gifts and she was diligent in studies and did her work with pleasure. She had a quiet and friendly nature. She was happy to do her work around the home. Once during her sickness she asked for her new English Bible, which was her present for Christmas from her parents. She read in it a little while and handed it back and with a clear voice sang: "God will take care of you." On December 26, in the evening, she became sick with fever. The condition which finally ended her life developed slowly. On December 31 the doctor was called. She was removed from her home to the Bethesda hospital at Goessel, Kansas, January 12, 1936, for special care and close observation of the doctor. Everything possible was done to save her life but in the wise council of God it was set that she would be taken out of this world of grief and pain into the presence of the Lord. She died quietly on January 16, at 4:30 P. M. She reached the age of 13 years, 4 months, and 28 days. We weep in parting but we are comforted to know that she is at home with the Lord.

In our hearts her memory lingers,
Sweetly, tender, fond and true;
There will not be a day, dear Annie;
That we will not think of you.

—B. B. Schmidt and family.

The funeral took place Jan. 21, 1936, 1:30 P. M. at the Alexanderwohl church. A large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral. Rev. P. H. Unruh and Rev. C. C. Wedel conducted the services. Rev. C. C. Wedel conducted the services. Rev. C. C. Wedel, in German, had for his text: Jno. 16, 22, and Rev. P. H. Unruh, in English, 1 Pet. 5. 6-7. A ladies' quartet sang several songs. Also a bouble [sic] quartet of her schoolmates sang the song, "How beautiful Heaven must be." then the three teachers of the Gordon school with their pupils (her schoolmates) sang "There's no Disappointment in Heaven." At the cemetery Rev. P. H. Unruh read Rev. 21, 1-7 and prayed.

My sympathy goes out to the bereaved family. — Correspondent.
