Mrs. Anna Rempel

Mrs. Anna (Sawatzky) Rempel was born Feb. 1, 1863 at the village of Puchtin, South Russia, and here grew up to womanhood. On November 23, 1880 she was married to Abraham J. Rempel. After four years of married life they ventured out, with many others, to a new country, namely America, and made their home around Burrton, Kansas, where they have lived most of their time. The Lord has blessed their union with eleven eight boys and three girls,. Three children died in fancy [sic]. One married son died at the age of 31 years in the year 1915. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1922.

She has been a member of the Mennonite church and has faithfully discharged her duties in the Burrton Mennonite church up to her end. The last four years she has been more or less helpless, because of two paralytic strokes, and as such she stayed with her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Richert, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was always very patient during her illness. The last few months she was taken care of at the Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kan. Last Sunday she was not feeling as well, but by Tuesday she was better, ate her supper yet, and about 8 o'clock she had her third stroke under which she passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, at 6 o'clock, to be with her lord whom she loved. She reached a ripe age of 67 years and 25 days. She leaves to mourn, one brother, 5 sons, 2 daughters, 9 grandchildren and many friends.

The funeral was held Feb. 26 at 2 o'clock p. m. in the Burrton Mennonite church. Rev. J. J. Plenert of Hutchinson officiating. Mr. and Mr. C. C. Epp sang two songs and a quartet sang two songs. Children present for the funeral were: Anna Nicholson, Pueblo, Colo.; Jacob Rempel, Puelo, Colo.; Peter Rempel, Albuquerque, N. Mexico; Henry Rempel, El Paso, Texas. The brother Jacob Sawatzky of Buhler, Kan. was also present.
