Sarah Schmidt Pankratz.

SARAH SCHMIDT PANKRATZ

My dear wife was born June 5, 1875, on a farm near Lehigh, Marion county, Kansas. Under the loving care and nurture of her Christian parents, Jacob and Susanna (Richert) Schmidt and in a Christian community she grew up to womanhood. In the spring of 1892 she took catechetical instruction and was baptized upon confession of her faith on the day of pentecost, June 6, 1892, by the Elder Jacob Buller and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl church. Since we lived and labored in several different communities, our membership certificate has been transfered [sic] four times. For a numner of years and until her death she was a member of the Burrton Mennonite church, Burrton, Kansas.

She led a quiet, faithful Christina life and faithfully discharged her duties in bringing up a large God-given family. She gave birth to six sons and six daughters of which three sons and two daughters preceeded [sic] her in death. She had six grandchildren all of whom are still living.

For a number of years she had been ailing considerably and on Monday, June 19, at 9:00 a. m. God saw fit to call her home in glory, having attained the age of 69 years and 14 days. Our happy matrimonial life lasted 46 year sand nine months. We passed through many hardships and tribulations but also experienced God's richest blessings and also comfort and joy which a true and faithful Christian living brings.

Besides myself, the following children mourn on account of our dear mother's passing: Ernst, Ella, Edward, Helen, Roland, Melvin Dean, Arlene Mae, Ruth and Stella.

We miss mother and long to meet her and all the others who have departed in glory.

The bereaved father (F. G. Pankratz) and children.
