Norman Nickel Drowned Northeast Of Lehigh, Sunday

SIXTEEN YEAR OLD YOUTH HAD GONE SWIMMING WITH FRIENDS SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The Goessel and Newton communities were shocked last Sunday afternoon when the report spread that Norman Nickel, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan B. Nickel living near the Alexanderwohl church, had drowned in a pond northeast of Lehigh.

The youth had gone swimming with several friends and it was thought that the cold water caused cramps which resulted in his death. The pond was more than 15 feet deep. His companions, seeing his distress, made an unsuccessful attempt to come to his rescue and it was more than an hour until his lifeless body was uncovered.

Norman was a member of the catechism class at the Alexanderwohl church and expected to be baptized in a few weeks. A conscientious lad, he was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services are to be held at the Alexanderwohl church this afternoon.
