Diedrich D. Neufeld

Diedrich D. Neufeld was born in South Russia, Nov. 23, 1861. At the age of 12 he migrated to this country with his parents and settled in Harvey county, Kansas.

In 1884 he was united in marriage with Sarah Ratzlaff. Together they were baptized and united with the Hebron church.

In 1908 he moved to California, where he remained five years. After the mother died he moved back to Kansas. after spending a very lonely year he again sought companionship with Paulina Pjesky. This year they were permitted to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Neufeld had been in ill health for many years, failing noticeably the last six months. Although he was sinking rapidly the last four days, he was not confined to his bed. He died peacefully Friday morning at 7:30 having reached the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure: his deeply bereaved wife, four daughters, Elisabeth (Mrs. Jacob L. Wall), Sarah (Mrs. C. L. Wall), Mary of the home, and Katherine Schmidt of Levy, New Mexico; nine grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.

Two daughters, one son and one grandchild, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. T. A. van der Smissen, Monday morning, July 17, at 8:00 o'clock at the home and 9:00 at the Hebron church. Interment was made at the Hebron cemetery. Thus another of our early settlers has passed from this life.
