— Friends and relatives here received word last Thursday afternoon that Mrs. Jacob Lohrentz had passed away at her home at Moundridge, where she had been ill for some time. For the past several years Mrs. Lohrentz had lived in Moundridge, however, the greater part of her life was spent on the farm home near the Alta Mills, where the family resided for many years. She is survived by nine children, several of whom live in other states. Funeral services where held Monday afternoon at the Hebron church east of Buhler, of which congregation the deceased had been a member.

Marie Lohrentz, nee Martens, was born in Elisabethtal, South Russia, July 27, 1860. At the age of twelve she lost her mother. In 1875 she came to the United States with her parents, Abraham and Sara (Second wife) Martens. They established their home two and one-half miles east of the present site of Buhler, Kansas. On October 18, 1879, she was baptized by the Rev. Bernhard Buhler and united with the Hebron Mennonite church of which she remained a faithful member up to her departure. She was one of the first four whom Rev. Buhler baptized; the other three were her brother Rev. Abr. martens, Rev. Jacob Dick, and Mrs. Cornelius Regier, the latter being the only one of the four surviving.
On Jan. 29, 1880, she united in marriage with Jacob Lohrentz. They established their home in Alt Township of Harvey County, Kansas, where they shared their joys and sorrow. To this happy union fifteen children were born, seven sons and eight daughters. Three sons and three daughters died in their infancy. On March 15, 1919, father passed away. A year later she moved to Moundridge, Kansas, where she resided until her death.
She lived like a true Christian mother, always having the temporal, but particularly the spiritual welfare of her children at heart. She suffered much, but patiently; often she would remark: "When will the hour come?" This hour came on Dec. 17, at 2:15 p. m. when our heavenly Father called her to her Eternal Rest. She reached the age of 71 years, 4 months and 20 days.
Our hearts are heavy. The home ties have been severed, but its manifold blessings will ever be held in grateful remembrance. Those surviving who mourn her departure are the children: Maria, who was with her for the last six years; Abraham of McPherson, Kansas; Mrs. Elisabeth Regier of Reedley, Calif.,; Henry of Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Sara Geeddert of Chicago, Ill.; Peter of Inman, Kansas; Mrs. Anna Regier of Moundridge, Kansas; Agnes of newton, Kansas; and David of Inman, Kansas; four daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law and nineteen grandchildren. Others that mourn with us, are: her one sister, Mrs. J. H. Schroeder; four half-sisters and four halfbrothers as also a host of relatives and friends.
