— Mrs. Anna Loewen, of Lehigh, mother of Mrs. P. F. Unruh and J. B. Loewen of Newton, died Tuesday at the Bethesda hospital in Goessel, at 12 P. M. She reached the age of 83 years and 10 months. Other children surviving are Mrs. John Ewert, Mrs. Pete stubby, Lehigh; Mrs. H. J. Reimer, Canton; and Frieda of the home. Mrs. Ernest Wyand of Canton preceded her in death. The funeral will be held Sunday, Jan. 25, at the First Mennonite church in Lehigh, at 2 P. M. Rev. B. H. Janzen and Rev. P. H. Unruh will conduct the service. Death was caused by cancer, complicated by pneumonia.

Mrs. Anna Loewen

Mrs. Anna Loewen, nee Anna Buller, was born march 18, 1858 in South Russia and departed this life Jan. 20, 1942 in the Bethesda hospital at Goessel, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and two days. Her mother died at her birth and she was taken as foster daughtrer by Rev. and Mrs. Henry Goertz. They came to America in 1874 and settled in Marion county, Kans. June 5, 1876 she accepted Christ as her Saciour [sic] and was baptized by Rev. Jacob Buller and united with the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, near Goessel.

Feb. 19, 1880 she united in marriage with J. J. M Loewen. Her husband died May 30, 1913 after a happy union of 34 years. To them nine children were born, two sons and seven daughters of whom one son and two daughters preceded her in death. The family moved to Lehigh in 1908 and after the death of her husband she united with the Lehigh Mennonite church in which she remained a faithful member.

Some years ago she developed a cancer and shortly before her passing she cantracted [sic] pneumonia, from which she was unable to recover.

She leaves her son J. B. Loewen and wife, a son-in-law Ernest Weyand, four daughters and their husbands, Messrs and mesdames John W. Ewert, Henry J. Reimer, Peter Stubby, P. F. Unruh and Miss Frieda Loewen, of the home. One daughter, Mrs. Ernest Weyand, preceded her in death four years ago. Also 35 grand children and 13 great grand children. The only other relatives in this country are cousins.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 25 in the Lehigh Mennonite church with Rev. B. H. Janzen in charge, assisted by Rev. Gerhard Friesen and Rev. P. H. Unruh. Rev. Janzen's text was Isaiah 26, 3. She was laid to rest under direction of Bergeh and Son of Goessel. Pall bearers were her grand sons, Marvin Loewen, Harley Ewert, Milton and Johnnie Reimer, Cldye Unruh and Arnold Weyand.
