AGED CITIZEN OF BERNE, IND., DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED WHEN STRUCK BY AUTO

Berne, Ind. — Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Barbara Soldner Lehman, aged 80, who was fatally injured by an auto driven by Wildas Liechty, 29, 15 5:10 Wednesday evening.

The final rites at the home were held at 1:45 and at the Mennonite church at 2:00 o'clock. Dr. C. H. Suckau, pastor of the church officiated.

Death took place at the Adams county hospital at Decatur at 1:45 Thursday a.m. where she was rushed following the accident which took place at the intersection of Water and Baltimore streets here.

Mrs. Lehman was returning to her home on Wabash street from a call at the Dr. Reusser home when she walked into the path of the car. She was rushed back to the office and from there to the hospital at Decatur where she passed away. Coroner Robert Zwick and county and city yolice [sic] officers who investigated the fatal accident exonerated Liechty and the verdict will be accidental death, according to Coroner Zwick.

Mrs. Lehman, widow of the late Peter Lehman, sustained a compound fracture of the right leg below the knee and her left leg was broken completely off at the hip. Her pelvis was shattered and she suffered numerous cuts and abrasions and internal injuries but remained conscious to the end. — From Berne Witness.

— According to a recent news item from Berne, ind., the large Mennonite church there has received $10,677.22 from the will of the late Barbara Lehman. Says the Berne Witness:

"In the estate of Barbara Lehman, the proof of the mailings of the notice of hearing on the appraiser's report was filed. The report of the inheritance tax appraiser was submitted. Affidavit by the officers of the First Mennonite church was filed.

"The court found the net value of the estate to be in the sum of $10,677.22 and that all of said sum goes to the First Mennonite church of Berne, sole legatee under the will and that there is no tax due.

"Mrs. Lehman, aged 80, died November 30, 1938, of injuries sustained when she was hit by an auto while crossing a West Water street road intersection.
