Our beloved mother, Elizabeth Kundel (nee) Brown [sic Braun], was born Feb. 12, 1873, in Russia. In 1876 she came to America with her parents, who settled near Mountain Lake, Minnesota.
In 1892, at the age of 19, she was converted and baptized into the Mennonite church at Mt. Lake. After she moved to Dolton, she attended the Union church.
In 1896 at the age of 23 years, she was united in marriage to Henry F. Kunkel of Parker. They came to Parker where they made their home until 1915 when the family moved to Dolton. To this union eleven children were born. Three of them died in infancy.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 29, 1932. She had a stroke of paralysis on February 11, and passed away peacefully on her birthday, February 12, 1937, at the age of 64 years.
She leaves to mourn her death three sons, Abraham of Glenville, Minn.; Isaac, of Dolton, and Harry of Marion; five daughters Mrs. Henry Reifers of Alexandria, Mrs. Dio Coffield, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Albert Sneer, Mt. Lake; Mrs. Arthur Vehle and Mrs. Lloyd Livingston of Mitchell; a stepson, Fred of Canistota, and a stepdaughter Mrs. Paul Weise of Salem, and twenty-five grandchildren, six brothers and one sister.
Kind is the hand of the Father of love,
Constantly sending His light from above,
Striving His tender compassion to prove;
Great is the goodness of God.
Funeral services were held from the Union church on Monday, Feb. 15, with Rev. Jacob Tiessen officiating. Interment was made in the Mennonite cemetery. The pall-bearers were: Ben Richert, Jake Ensz, Ted Huber, Cornelius Loewen, Peter Koehn, and Henry Nicholas.
Members of the family from a distance, that were able to be present were: Abraham Kunkel of Glenville, Minn.; Mrs. Albert Sneer, Mt. Lake; Mrs. Henry Reifers, of Alexandria; Mrs. Dio Coffield, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Arthur Vehle, and Mrs. Lloyd Livingston of Mtichell.
