PETER R. KRAUSE

Peter R. Krause, son of Rev. P. J. and Susan (Reimer) Krause, was born in Marion county, Kansas, April 18, 1890. His childhood and youth were spent in Lehigh, where he also received his elementary education. He accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior and was baptized upon cofession [sic] of his faith and so received into the Lehigh Mennonite church by his father, the Rev. P. J. Krause, in 1912.

On July 21, 1912, he married Lena Loewen. For 32 years they were privileged to live in a happy home life. Eight sons were born to this marriage. One of them, Eldo, whose span of life was only a few hours, preceded him in death in 1931. These boys, who are now the comfort of their mother, have been the source of much joy in his life and he together with his wife brought them to the Savior early in their lives. It always was a matter of deep concern to him that his boys should walk the narrow way.

He was a good father and husband, always concerned about the welfare of his family. From early childhood he possessed a firm faith in the guiding hand of the Lord and he humbly bowed to His will, never being ashamed to witness for his Lord and Master.

Pete, as he was commonly known, had a cheerful nature and consequently made friends wherever he went, first as mail-carrier of the Lehigh community for a number of years, then in various other lines of business in Texas, where he resided for a number of years, as well as in the Hillsboro community.

At one time when it seemed expedient to take his family to Rogers, Arkansas, he united with the Nazarene church in the absence of his own church. Later he again united with the Lehigh Mennonite church of which he was a member at the time of his death.

He had been in ill health for a number of years and followed the call of his master after considerable suffering on August 3, 1944, at the age of 54 years, 3 months and 15 days.

He felt that his summons could come at any moment, as he had suffered several strokes. He often said he was ready to go, as he knew his Lord and his Lord knew him.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his sorrowing widow and seven sons, three daughters-in-law and one grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Krause, Vineland, N. Jersey; Mr. and Mrs. Waldemar Krause, Camp Butner, N. Carolina; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Krause, Reedley, Calif.; Menno, U. S. Navy, overseas; Ernest Merchant Marines, overseas; Edgar, Vineland, N. Jersey; Roland, Fort Collins, Colo.; the grandchild, Margaret Ann, Waldemar's daughter; his aged mother, Mrs. P. J.Krause, six sisters, six brothers-in-law and many friends and relatives.

All have come home except the two sons who are overseas and two daughters-in-law who were unable to come because of traveling difficulties.

If the departed could speak to us today he would say with the Apostle Paul: "For our light affliction which is but for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."

No setting sun, no fading ray,
In that far land of perfect day;
No falling leaf, no drooping flower,
No clouded sky, no parting hour.

No sobbing heart, no weary sigh,
No sorrow there, no tearful eye;
In that bright home joy reigns supreme,
Each breath a song, and love the theme.

No taint of sin, no sad farewell,
Where with the Lord His ransomed dwell,
Dear Savior bring us safely there,
To see Thy face, Thy beauty wear.

The funeral was held at Lehigh, August 7, preceded by a short service at Hillsboro at 10:15, with Rev. B. H. Janzen and Rev. H. T. Unruh, officiating.

Appropriate music was furnished by a a quartet from Hillsboro and one from Lehigh.
