Abraham C. Koehn

Abraham C. Koehn, son of Cornelius E. and Katharine Ratzlaff Koehn, was born on October 15, 1884, in McPherson county, Kans. He spent his youth in Kansas, where he attended the English and German school until his parents moved to Oklahoma in 1901, near Goltry where he grew to manhood.

In June 3, 1906, he was baptized by Elder Johann Ratzlaff after catechetical instruction and thereby joined the new Hopedale church near Meno.

When the Zoar church was organized in Goltry, he transferred his membership to this church, where he has remained faithful to the end.

On April 20, 1908, he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Becker, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Koehn Becker. The union remained childless. In this union they shared their joys and sorrows for 290 years, 3 months, and 7 days. God blessed their efforts and economical living so that they never lacked in earthly things.

For 22 years they lived two miles east of Goltry, and seven years near Meno.

At the age of three years he broke his arm, which to some extent did leave a bodily ailment throughout his life.

Later on in years he was weakened by heart trouble and four years ago he fell from a wagon. Since then his bodily ailments became serious, and different physicians could give no help.

At three different times he was near death and given up to die yet he always revived.

On Tuesday afternoon July 27, 1937, he again had one of his former attacks, but this time he was not able to recover and passed away at 3:30 p.m.

He attained the age of 52 years 9 months and 12 days.

He was one of the quiet, faithful, peace loving and friendly ones in the community and in church.

Twenty years ago his mother preceded him in death and one brother and one sister in their infancy.

He is mourned by his wife, his father, four brothers and 8 sisters.

They are as follows: Susie, Mrs. Jacob P. Unruh; Isaac, Lena, Mrs. Irving Unruh; all of Meno, Okla.; Barney, Lizzy, Mrs. Dan Becker; Marie, Mrs. Sam Pjesky and Julia at home, all from Goltry; Anny, Mrs. Jacob H. Schmidt; John and Frank from Carnegie, Okla.; Carlina, Mrs. Henry H. Pekrul from Ringwood, Okla.

Much sympathy has been shown by his brothers and sisters-in-law who often visited and cared for him.

Many close relatives and friends wish him a happy beyond.

Funeral services were held at the Zoar church at Goltry Friday afternoon, July 30. Rev. H. N. Harder, Enid; Rev. J. J. Ratzlaff, Newton, Kans., and Rev. J. W. Bergen, pastor of Zoar church conducted the services. A quartet and trio sang sons of comfort at the home and church. Interment was made in the Goltry cemetery. The church building was not large enough to accommodate all friends and relatives who came to attend.
