text of obituary:

Mrs. Joseph N. Kaufman

Grandmother Barbara Kaufman, nee Graber, was born in the village of Horodisch, Wolhynia, Russia, on the 6th of January, 1842. In early youth she was converted to the Lord Jesus Christ, received the holy rite of baptism, and united with the Mennonite Church.

On the 16th of November, 1858, she was united in marriage to Joseph N. Kaufman who departed from this life just nine days before her death after they had lived together for over 69 years. it was her desire that she might soon follow her husband into the heavenly home, for after being so intimately and lovingly attached together for so many years the departure from her husband was very painful. Of the 10 children that entered the home six survive, four of them having died in infancy.

In 1874 the deceased with her family and many others came from Russia to this country. At first they settled in Illinois, where they lived a year and a half. In 1876 they moved to Kansas and then lived in the vicinity of Moundridge until a few years ago, when they went to Kingman County, Kansas to live with their children. There grandfather Kaufman passed away on the 21 of Feb. Grandmother was strong enough to follow the casket to Moundridge, and attended the funeral. After the funeral, however, she was completely exhausted and became bedfast. She had no particular pains and was strong and clear in mind till the very last, but physically she continued to fail until she peacefully slumbered away on Thursday afternoon, March 1st,1928, just a week after the funeral of her husband. Her age was 86 years, 1 month and 25 days.
