Mrs. Lena Kane

Mrs. Lena Kane, the daughter of Andrew and Helena (Boese) Schmidt, was born in Antonofka, Russia, March 3, 1870. In 1880 she came to America with her parents and they settled down in McPherson Co., Kansas, near Lone Tree. On January 26, 1889, she was married to Peter Kane. On August 10, 1894, the family moved to Meno, Okla., where she has lived with her family for the rest of her life. June 14, 1914, she was baptized and joined the New Hopedale church and has been a faithful member until her death.

To Mr. and Mrs. Kane were born one son, Frank, Meno, and 8 daughters, Amelia (Mrs. Albert Schmidt); Lillie (Mrs. Tobe Schultz) Meno; Leona (Mrs. Cornelius Thomas) Ringwood; Neta (Mrs. Lincoln Koehn) Meno; Rena, (Mrs. Nelson Wedel) Ringwood; Laura, Meno; Vera (Mrs. Alvin Ratzlaff) Meno; and Florence (Mrs. Albert Ratzlaff) Orienta, Okla.

Practically all of her life she was healthy and strong and was able to take care of her family. November 23, 1933, she became sick and has been in failing health ever since. On June 25, 1934 she departed from this life and thus has been taken a true Christian and a dear, loving wife and mother. When she realized that she could not be with her family much longer she submitted to the Lord's will and was ready to go to her reward. Her age was 64 years 3 months and 22 days. She leaves to mourn her death: her husband, one son, 8 daughters, one daughter-in-law, 7 sons-in-law, 11 grand children (one had preceded her in death), 2 brothers, Andrew, Ringwood, Jacob of Sublette, Kansas; and Mrs. Anna Koehn, Meno, her only sister, and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. 14, 18: "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth Yes, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."

Funeral services were held on June 28, 1934, at the Newhopedale Church. The following ministers officiated: Rev. H. T. Neufeld, Rev. H. T. Neufeld, Rev. J. J. Ratzlaff, and Rev. H. U. Schmidt. A men's quartet sang appropriate hymns in the church and at the grave.
