Mutter Magdalene Janzen, Tochter von Gerhard und Justine Penner, geb. Penner, wurde am 20. Oktober, 1860, zu Irrgang, West Preussen, geboren. Ihre Eltern wurden durch den Tod abgerufen als sie noch im Kindesalter war, und sie fand dann ein christliches Heim bei ihrem Onkel und Tante Heinrich Penner. Sie hat ihren Schulunterricht in Privat- und Dorfschule erhalten. Nach ihrem Taufunterricht wurde sie in der Mennonitenkirche zu Heubuden von Aeltester Gerhard Penner am 21. Mai, 1877, auf das Bekenntnis ihres Glaubens getauft. Im Herbst 1881 kam sie mit Verwandten nach Amerika und machte ihr Heim bei ihrem Bruder Heinrich Penner. Am 29. März, 1883, trat sie in den heiligen Ehestand mit Heinrich Janzen, der ihr schon am 30. Dezember, 1924, im Tode vorangegangen ist. Dieser Ehe wurden vier Söhne und vier Töchter, geschenkt. Zwei Söhne starben in ihrer frühen Jugend. Vor etwa zehn Jahren verlor sie ihr Augenlicht, welches sie mit anderen Schwächen geduldig, mit der Hilfe des Herrn, trug. Vor ungefähr einem Monat erkrankte sie an einem Leiden wovon der Herr sie am 29. Oktober, 7 Uhr abends, stille zu sich nahm. Alt geworden ist sie 83 J. und 9 Tage. Sie hinterläßt 2 Söhne, 4 Töchter, 2 Schwiegersöhne, 1 Schwiegertochter, 13 Großkinder, 1 Bruder, und viele Freunde.

Heim ins Vaterland.

MRS. MAGDALENE JANZEN

Our dear mother, Magdalene Janzen, daughter of Gerhard and Justine Penner, was born at Irrgang, West Prussia, October 20, 1860. Both of her parents passed away while she was but a child. She found a welcome home with her Uncle Heinrich Penner and family.

She received her education in private and public schools. On May 21, 1877, following a period of Christian instruction, she expressed her desire to be baptized at the Heubuden Mennonite Church by Elder Gerhard Penner. In the fall of 1881 she accompanied relatives to America, making her home with her brother Heinrich Penner.

On March 29, 1883, she was married to Heinrich Janzen who in 1924 preceded her in death. Eight children, four sons and four daughters, were given to this home. Two sons died in their youth. About ten years ago mother lost the use of her eyes. With the help of her Lord, she bore her burdens patiently, also thankful for every blessing and act of kindness received. About one moth ago an illness set in which led to the end of her earthly pilgrimage. The Lord quietly took her to be with Himself on Friday evening, October 29.

She attained the ripe age of 83 years and 9 days. She leaves 2 sons, 4 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 13 grandchildren, 1 brother, and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Magdalene Janzen were held November 2. Rev. Walter H. Dyck officiated at the home. He based his German message on Isaiah 60:20. A mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wiebe and Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Goossen, sang "Sie Warten Schon Am Thore." Rev. Dyck, then gave another comforting message on 1 Cor. 2:9. "That Will Be Glory For Me," was sung by the quartet.

Further services were held at the First Mennonite Church, Beatrice, Nebraska. The opening song "Lass Mich Gehn" was sung by the congregation. Rev. Cornelius Penner gave the invocation. After the song "Mir ist Wohl" by the quartet he gave the German message. (2 Tim. 4:18). Rev. Dyck then spoke on Matt. 16:27. The closing song "There's No Disappointment in Heaven" was sung by the quartet.

Interment in the church cemetery.
