text of obituary:

John F. Goering

John F. Goering, son of Jacob H. and Katie (Ries) Goering, was born April 1, 1863, at Shitomir, Wolinia, Russia.

He was baptized upn his faith and received into the Hoffnungsfeld church at Moundridge, Kansas, on April 19, 1878.

He was united to Freni Schrag, daughter of Joseph and Anna Schrag, September 26, 1884, and lived with her in holy wedlock for a period of 54 years and one day.

He was the father of 10 children of which two preceded him in death in infancy.

He was a strong, healthy man until some years ago when a pernicious disease began sapping out his vitality. About four weeks ago his suffering became more acute and serious so that it appeared advisable to take him to the Bethel hospital at Newton, Kansas, where he remained three weeks and two days until his death , which occurred Tuesday morning, September 27, at 7:00 o'clock.

He lived to the ripe old age of 75 years, 5 months, and 26 days.

He may be counted as one of the pioneers who took upon themselves the hardships of converting the Kansas prairies into prosperous farmsteads and homes. He belongs to those who paved the way for the coming generations.

He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply bereaved widow, who shared the joys and sorrows of life with him for more than half a century; 8 children, 20 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Six grandchildren preceded him in death. Besides these he leaves one sister, 5 brothers, many relatives, friends and acquaintances, who now mourn his departure.

Words of comfort were spoken at the funeral by Dr. A. Warkentin, Rev. P. P. Tschetter and his pastor, Rev. J. C. Kaufman.
