Mrs. Herman Giesbrecht

Aberdeen, Idaho, Nov. 28, 1929. — Mrs. Herman Giesbrecht, wife of one of Aberdeen’s pioneer farmers, and loving mother of an esteemed family of children, who died on Wednesday of last week, was paid last respects by a large congregation of friends and relatives at her funeral services last Sunday afternoon. The funeral was held from the family home in Aberdeen at two o’clock with services at the Homestead Mennonite church four miles southwest of town at three o’clock. Rev. John Toevs preached a counseling sermon and Mrs. John L. Toevs sang “Jesus Saviour Pilot me.

Marie Giesbrecht, nee Tiahrt, was born on May 1, 1863 to Siewert and Sara Tiahrt in West Preussen. She received her schooling in Montau and Sommerau, in West Preussen and was baptised in Thiensdorf, West Preussen by Rev. Penner. The deceased came to America with her parents in June o 1876, the family making their home in Beatrice, Neb. On the 26th day of February, 1885, she was married to Herman Giesbrecht.

In 1897 the Giesbrecht family moved to California, and in 1908 they came to Aberdeen and located on a homestead two miles south of town, which farm is still commonly known as the Giesbrecht farm. In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Giesbrecht established their residence in Aberdeen and retired from farming activities.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Giesbrecht leaves to mourn her departure: two sons, Herman Giesbrecht of Pocatello, Idaho, and Henry Giesbrecht of Aberdeen, Idaho; four daughters, Miss Margaret E. Giesbrecht of Aberdeen, Idaho; four daughters, Miss Margaret E. Giesbrecht of Blackfood [sic Blackfoot], Idaho; Mrs. Elfrede [Frieda] Becker, Edith Giesbrecht and Mrs. Gertrude Crippen of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Marian Hege, Ruth Helen, Alice Beth, Harry Vern and Ray Hugh Crippin; two brothers, Henry Tiahrt of Beatrice, Neb., and Cornelius Tiahrt of Aberdeen, and one sister, Elise Fast of Reedley, California.

Miss Edith Giesbrecht, who was just finishing school at Newton, Kansas, arrived here Friday and does not expect to return to the Kansas school. Herman Giesbrecht and C. L. Crippin of Pocatello, Idaho, were also here for the funeral. — Aberdeen Times.
