Mrs. Joel P. Gerber

Sarah, Mrs. Joel P. Gerber, daughter of Benjamin and Verenna Steiner-Amstutz, was born May 9, 1879, and ended her earthly career September 23, 1931, aged 52 years, 4 months, and 14 days. She was baptized by Rev. Joel Lehman of the Salem church, April 12, 1895. On March 2, 1900, she was married by the same minister to Joel P. Gerber who, with one son George, and one daughter, Verna, Mrs. Clinton Sprunger, three grandchildren, stepmother, two brothers, Dan B. and Amos H. Amstutz, three sisters, Anna, Mrs. David D. Hofstetter, Pauline, Mrs. Reuben Hofstetter survive her. Mrs. Gerber had a lovable, quiet, unassuming disposition, was a kind wife and mother, and during her long illness accompanied by intense pain she bore up bravely, longing to go home freed from all pain. A vacancy has been created, not only in her immediate family cirlce, but also in church and community.

Short services were held at the home by Rev. A. R. Keiser and in the Sonnenberg church by her pastors Rev. C. N. Amstutz and Rev. Jacob Neuenschwander, in German, and Rev. Otis Johns of the east Canton Mission church, in English. Mr. and Mrs. Noah P. Gerber and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Schumacher of Bluffton came to attend the funeral.
