Peter B. Funk

Our loving father and husband, Peter B. Funk, was a son of Rev. Jacob and Maria F. Funk (nee Heinrichs) He was born on the 10th of August 1883. In the year of 1901, on the 29th of May, he was baptized upon his confession of faith that Jesus was his personal Savior, by the elder William J. Ewert, and was thus received a member of the Bruderthal congregation, whose faithful member he remained until death called him. He was married on the 10th of March 1904. During this time twelve children were born six sons and six daughters. On April 20th 1925 my husband was operated for goitre. He submitted to another operation on February 8, 1926; but since that time he never fully regained his health. Ever since last July he spent most of his time in bed. On September, the 8th he wished to be taken to Salem hospital. Dr. Hertzler, of Halstead was again called for advice but no hopes were given for recovery. He would have liked to have stayed with his dear ones, but he submitted to the will of the Lord and was ready to meet him when he called him. On his death bed he wished to have the song sung, "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The loving sisters of the hospital sang a number of songs which were a great comfort to him. He was sick eight weeks. On Thursday, September 13, 1928 at 1:08 p.m. he passed to the great beyond. We would like to have kept him with us but the Lord's will be done. He leaves to mourn, me, his bereaved wife, eleven children, one son-in-law, two brothers four sisters and many friends. Not as those who have no hope, but as those who believe that he has gone to his eternal rest where he will be until the great resurrection morn. His age was 45 years 1 month and 3 days.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday September the 18th at the Bruderthal church where Rev. P. Moutete and Rev. J. Plenert spoke words of comfort in German and Rev. John P. Suderman in the English Language. Interment was at the bruderthal cemetery. — Hillsboro Star.
