Eva Schmidt Franz ward am 8. Okt. 1875 in Marion Co., Kansas geboren und genoß da christliche Erziehung und Schule. Am 14. Mai 1894 ward sie von Aelt. Jakob Buller getauft und Glied der Alexanderwohl Gemeinde, deren treues Glied sie blieb. Am 18. Juni, 1903 heiratete sie und durfte mit ihrem Gatten über 40 Jahre Freud und Leid teilen. 5 Kinder wurden ihnen geboren, und sie nahmen auch Carrie Ratzlaff als 6 jähriges Kind in die Familie auf und sie hatte da 10 Jahre ihr Heim. Am 11. Jan. 1943 bekam die Mutter den ersten Schlag und hat sich nie ganz davon erholt, sondern mußte viel Zeit im Bett oder Stuhl zubringen. Sie trug ihr Leiden mit Geduld. Eine stille Natur widmete sie ihre Zeit ihrer Familie und übte gerne Gastfreundschaft, sodaß viele hier ein und aus gingen. Ihre Mutterliebe umschloß all ihre Kinder. Am Sonntagmorgen hatte sie einen Herzanfall und starb schon am nächsten Abend um 7 Uhr, den 17. Jan. 1944 im Alter von 68 J. 3. M. und 9 Tagen. Es trauen um sie ihr Gatte und die Kinder: Esther Franz Thiessen, Bethune, Colo.; Anna Franz Woelk, Goessel, Kans.; Arthur Franz, Canton, Kans.; Albert Franz, Wichita, Kans.; und Peter P. Franz, Hillsboro, Kans.; 2 Schwiegersöhne, 1 Schwiegertochter, 8 Enkel, 1 Schwester und 2 Brüder.

Nun ist sie heim!
Das Ach und Weh der Erden,
Das ließ sie hinter sich zurück.
Nun ist sie heim
Und ruht von den Beschwerden
Sich aus in ungetrübtem Glück.
Nun ist sie heim
Ob schnell auch ging die Reise,
Das Brot des Lebens blieb auch ihre Speise
Und labte sie gleich goldnem Honigseim —

— Mrs. P. C. Franz, Goessel, died at her home there Monday, Jan. 17, after having been bedfast for one year, two months and seven days as result of a stroke. She was 68 years of age. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church. She is survived by her husband and five children.

— Another large funeral was held at the Alexanderwohl church at Goessel Friday afternoon when Mrs. P. C. Franz, 68, was laid to her final resting place. Burial was in the cemetery at the church. Mrs. Franz had been ill for over a year, suffered intensely for a greater part of the time, and toward the end was entirely helpless.

MRS. EVA SCHMIDT FRANZ

Eva Schmidt Franz was born on Oct 8, 1875, in Marion county, Kansas. Here she received a Christian education in the home and school. On May 14, 1894, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by the Elder Jacob Buller and was received into membership of the Alexanderwohl congregation, of which she was a faithful member to the end.

On June 18, 1903, we were married. Rev. C. C. Wedel performing the marriage ceremony, and we have shared joys and sorrows together for 40 years, 89 months, less one day. On Juen 18, 1928, we celebrated our silver wedding and on June 18, 1943, the 40th wedding anniversary. Five children were born to this union, all of whom are still living. Carrie Ratzlaff,at the age of six years was also taken into our home, where she remained for a period of about ten years.

On Jan. 11, 1943, mother had her first stroke of which she never fully recovered, but was ailing more or less, lying on the bed or sitting in the chair most of the time. She bore her suffering patiently. She was of a quiet nature, devoting her time and energy to the welfare of her family. Hospitality was one of her outstanding virtues as many can testify. Her motherly love embraced all her children until the end.

On Sunday morning, Jan. 16, she had a heart attack and died on Jan. 17, 1944, at 7:25 o'clock in the evening. She reached the age of 68, years 3 months and 9 days.

She leaves to mourn her husband and five children: Esther Franz Thiessen, Bethune, Colo.; Anna Franz Woelk, Goessel; Arthur Franz, Canton; Albert Franz, Wichita; Pete P. Franz, Hillsboro. Two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law and eight grandchildren, one sister and two brothers also survive.
