Susie Flaming, geborene Janzen war am 3. Oktober, 1902, in McPherson County, Kansas, geboren, starb am 8. November, 1946 in ihrem Heim zu Reedley, Californien im Alter von 44 Jahren. Als Kind zog sie mit ihren Eltern nach Nowatu [sic], Oklahoma, wo sie zur Jungfrau heran wuchs. Außer der Volksschule, durfte sie noch die Hopeview Bibelschule besuchen nahe Inman, Kansas. Am 10. August 1919 empfing sie die heilige Taufe von Prediger John Lichte, auf das Bekenntnis ihres Glaubens. Am 30. Mai, 1923 schloß sie den Ehebund mit Ernest B. Flaming. Der Herr schenkte ihnen zwei Söhne. Sie wohnten bei Corn, Oklahoma und waren Glieder der Bergtal Gemeinde bis sie nach Reedley, Californien, zogen und sich der hiesigen Gemeinde anschlossen. Hier diente sie nach Kräften und Gaben in der Sonntagsschule. Jugendverein und Frauen Missionsverein, wo sie die letzten zwei Jahre den Vorsitz führte.

SUSIE FLAMING
Susie Flaming, nee Janzen, our dear wife and mother, was born October 3, 1902 in McPherson county, Kansas. She passed away November 8, 1946, at 8:30 p. m. at the home at Reedley, California. She attained the age of 44 years, one month and five days.
In early childhood her parents moved to Nowata, Oklahoma, where she grew to young womanhood, attending the public schools. Later she also attended the Hopeview Bible Academy near Inman, Kansas, from which she was also graduated.
August 10, 1919, she was baptized upon the confession of faith in Christ as her personal Saviour by the Rev. John Lichti, and united with the local Mennonite church. On May 30, 1923, she was united in holy matrimony with C. B. Flaming. This union was blessed with two sons.
We made our home at Corn, Oklahoma, where she united with the Bergthal Mennonite church, and was a member until we moved to Reedley, California. There she united with the First Mennonite church until the time of her passing away.
She was always of a cheerful disposition, and served with great joy to the home, the church, and the community. She was always ready to go the second mile. About two years ago her health began to fail. Though all medical care was sought, yet her health kept on failing. When our son Horton developed polio, it became much harder for her. But she found help and strength in the promises of God’s Word and help rendered by willing hearts and hands.
Just before she passed away she opened her eyes and looked around with what seemed to us a heavenly smile, and then she saw the heavens open to receive her. She peacefully left us to be with he Lord. She was the youngest in the family and the first from her family to be united in death with her father who preceded her.
She leaves to mourn her too early departure her husband; two sons, Vernon of Reedley, California; Horton, who was permitted to come home for the funeral but must return to the hospital; her mother 83 years old; three sisters, four brothers, one half-brother, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 13, beginning in the home where Rev. B. H. Kissler read Psalm 77, spoke fitting words of consolation and led in prayer. A group of singers composed of relatives and friends sang.
Services were then held at the First Mennonite church of Reedley with Rev. P. K. Regier officiating. Rev. H. R. Wiens read Psalm 116 and spoke briefly, using the 15th verse as the basis of his remarks. Rev. Regier read the obituary and brought a message, using Isaiah 54: 10 as his text.
A quartet served with two songs, “Hand in Hand with Jesus,” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” while the one used in the home was “We Are Going Down the Valley One by One.” A large group of relatives and friends filled the church — C. B. Flaming and Family.
