Mrs. John Fast

Mrs. John Fast, nee Marie Regier, was born Jan. 26, 1855, in Rudnerweide, South Russia.

In 1873 she was baptized and received into the church by Rev. David Goertz.

In the following year, 1874, she emigrated to America with her widowed mother and 9 brothers and sisters. They settled down near Moundridge, Kansas.

n 1877 she was married to John Fast. A few years later they joined the Hebron church. But later when they made their home in Burrton they transferred their membership to that church, of which she was a member until death.

Feb. 17, 1918 her husband preceded her in death.

Six years ago she came to Buhler to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ben Buhler, who has so faithfully cared for her and nursed her in her old age and long illness.

The last year and 3 months, Mrs. Fast was confined to her bed and was often very sick. Three weeks ago she was taken to the Goessel Hospital. Last Friday, at about 5:30 in the morning, all alone, she quietly passed away. Her departure was as she had wished it, for she often expressed the desire that she might fall asleep and not wake up. She reached the age of 80 years and 6 months.

She was a true, devoted mother and through all the hardships of pioneer days she faithfully cared for her large family. She lived her faith in a quiet way — without show.

She was tired of this earthly life and often in this last trying time, she expressed the longing to be in that better home on high. We have the full confide3nce that she has gone to that eternal rest where she now beholds what she believed here.

Those who mourn her death are her 12 children: John F. Fast of Hooker, Okla.; Aber. F. Fast., of Hooker, Okla.; Margaret Buhler, of Buhler, Kans.; Jacob Fast, of Buhler, Frank Fast, of Buhler; Mrs. Frank Wedel, Salem Oregon; Peter Fast, Marionvile, Mo.; Corn. Fast, Burrton, Kan.; Ben Fast, Highwood, Mont.; Henry Fast, Neiva, Columbia, South America; Mrs. Herman Franz, Turpin, Oklahoma; Mrs. D. A. Enns, Guymon, Okla. Also 29 grandchildren (2 have died) and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. F. F. Wedel, Ben and Henry Fast were not present at the funeral.

Of her many brothers and sisters there are but three brothers, one sister, and one sister-in-law who survive her and mourn her passing.
