MRS. ELSIE DICK

Elsie Epp Dyck, daughter of Franz Epp and Elisabet Janzen Epp, was born June 18, 1865, in Fresenheim, Russia. Her parents, born in West Prussia, settled in Russia for a short period, before bringing their family to the United States in 1876. She spent her childhood near Halstead, Kansas, and was baptized in the Halstead Mennonite Church on November 2, 1879.

She was united in marriage in 1886 with Peter Dyck. To this union were born twelve children, four of which preceded her in death; three boys in their childhood and Harry Alfred Dyck, who passed away in his manhood, 17 years ago on the same day of his mother’s departure, June 1.

Those left to cherish her memory are the loving husband, Peter Dyck; four sons and four daughters. These are: Herbert of Wichita, Kansas; Cornie of Burrton, Kansas; Pete of Moundridge, Kansas; Elmer, who is serving as a Marine in the Southwest Pacific; Johanna, who nursed and cared for her in her home in Halstead; Mrs. Marie Bartel of Halstead, Mrs. Elsie Horsch of Ontario, California and Anna Belle of Monterey, Mexico; Also, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the First Mennonite church of Halstead at 2:30 o’clock, Monday afternoon, June 5, with Rev. D. C. Wedel, pastor of the church and Rev. T. R. Mordy, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Halstead, in charge.

Burial was in the family lot in Halstead Cemetery.
