DEPARTED MISSIONARY IS LAID TO REST AT HER FORMER HOME AT BERNE, IND.,

The funeral services for Miss Lavina Burkhalter, 52, who passed away at Los Angeles, Cali., recently after a brief illness of acute lymphatic leucaemia, were held at the Peter Burkhalter home at Berne, Ind., last Friday and at the Mennonite church there, according to a report in the Berne Witness.

The disease is one in which the white corpuscles of the blood destroy the red and medical authorities estimate that only one in 5,000 with the disease survives.

The deceased was a missionary on the west coast since 1920. her sister, Miss Rachel, who was was [sic] en route to Los Angeles to be at her bedside when word came of the death, will accompany the body back to Berne.
