Peter Zuercher

Peter Zuercher, aged 72 years, a prominent resident of Milton township, Butler county, died suddenly at his home one mile northeast of Whitewater, at nine o'clock Wednesday night, June 11, of a heat attack which occurred shortly after he had gone up-stairs to retire for the night.

He had been married fifty years and came to Kansas from Switzerland in 1883, settling on the farm where he had continuously resided ever since. He was a member of the school board for forty years, and was treasurer of Milton township for a great many years. He was a farmer and stockman for most of these years and for the past eight years he, with his son Walter, has operated a filling station and oil trucking business at Whitewater.

He was a charter member of the Swiss Mennonite church, located one and one-half miles north of Whitewater from which place funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two thirty. Interment was made in the Swiss cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Zuercher are thirteen children, fifty-one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The sons and daughters are: Fred Zuercher, Arnold W. Zuercher, Walter W. Zuercher of Whitewater, Sam Zuercher of Wichita, Charles Zuercher of Benton, John Zuercher of Harper, Kansas, Pete H. Zuercher of Radium, Kansas, and Ernest M. Zuercher of Springfield, Colorado. Mrs. A. J. Dirks, Whitewater, Mrs. Charles Miltner and Mrs. Ernest Langennegger of Wichita, Mrs. D. H. Rutschman of Elbing and Mrs. Fred Streun of Hereford, Texas.
