Heinrich Thiesen

Our dear father, Heinrich Thiesen, son of Jacob Thiesen and Katherine Block, was born in South Russia on January 13, 1863. In the year 1874 he came with his parents to America and they settled in Marion country [sic], Kansas.

On October 8, 1882, he was baptized by Jacob Buller and received into the Alexanderwohl church. When the Tabor church was founded, he joined the same. On December 14, 1886, he was married to Anna Goertz. He lived in the state of matrimony for 53 years, 7 months and 10 days.

Four children were born to them, three sons and one daughter. Two sons died since last fall and he often spoke of leave-taking. On Easter day he said to us he would likely not eat with us another Easter. Shortly before Easter he wished to partake of the Lord's Supper, which was thereupon given to him at his house. Since he needed more care we brought him to the Bethesda Home for the Aged on April 25, where he enjoyed his new home.

His bladder trouble increased. Pneumonia was added to this. During the last three days he was seriously ill. He died on May 24 at 7:30 in the evening and has survived mother 10 months. He reached an age of 78 years, 4 months and 22 days. He leaves one son; Mr. and Mrs. David H. Thiesen, one daughter, Agnes of the home, and three grandsons. He is survived by one brother, Jacob B. Thiesen; one brother-in-law, Frank H. Goertz, and three sisters-in-law.

Funeral services were held on May 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the Tabor church with Rev. P. H. Hiebert officiating. The Guhr quartet sang two songs at the church, "In that Beautiful Land" and "Will the Circle be Unbroken" and at the grave, "We are Going Down the Valley." Interment was at the Tabor cemetery under the direction of G. H. Bergen of Bergen's Mortuary of Goessel.

Henry Thiesen, son of Jacob and Katharine Block, was born in South Russia on January 13, 1863 and departed this life on May 24, 1941, making him 78 years, 4 months and 11 days of age. In the year 1874 he came with his parents to America and they settled in Marion county, Kansas.

On October 8, 1882 he was baptized by Elder Jacob Buller and received into the Alexanderwohl church. When the Tabor church was founded he joined that church. On December 14, 1886 he was married to Anna Goertz, who preceded him in death 10 months ago. They lived in the state of matrimony for 53 years and four children were born to them—three sons and one daughter—of which two sons died in childhood.

His strength decreased greatly since last fall. Shortly before Easter, he wished to partake of the Lord's Supper, which was given to him at his house. Since he needed more care, he was taken to the Bethesda Home for the Aged on April 25.

He leaves one son, David H. Thiesen, and one daughter, Agnes, of the home, and three grandons, Adolph, Walter and Harry Thiesen. He is also survived by one brother, Jacob B. Thiesen; one brother-in-law, Frank H. Goertz, and three sisters-in-law.

Funeral services were held on May 28 at 2:30 p. m. at the Tabor church, with Rev. P. H. Richert officiating. The Guhr quartet sang two numbers at the church and one selection at the grave. Burial was in the Tabor cemetery under the direction of G. H. Berger [sic] of Bergen's mortuary of Goessel.
