• Funeral services were held at the Bethel College Mennonite Church of North Newton Dec. 27 for Timothy L. Soth, 19, who died Dec. 24 of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Officiating were John Esau and Irvin Lampe. Soth was a passenger in a car driven by Brenda Arellano. It skidded on an icy county road broadside into the path of a pickup driven by Walter R. Schmidt of Newton. Arellano was hospitalized with head injuries, while Schmidt was treated for minor injuries and released. Soth, a student at the University of Oklahoma, is survived by his parents, James L. and Barbara Balzer Soth; a brother, Terrence L. of Newton; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Soth and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer D. Balzer, all of Newton.

• Before his death a year ago, Tim Soth had begun work on a nativity scene of ceramic figures, which would have been a Christmas gift to the Bethel College Mennonite Church. During the past year friends of Soth completed the project he had begun, and this Christmas the gift was presented by Jim, Barbara and Terry Soth.
