— Mrs. Susie K. Martin of the Bethel College campus, died at the Bethel hospital last Thursday morning, from the results of a fall in which she broke her hip. Mrs. Martin was the mother of Mrs. P.J. Boehr of the Bethel college campus, and had reached the ripe old age of 83 years.

Mrs. Susie K. Martin

Mrs. Susie K. Martin, widow of the late Henry Martin, died at Bethel hospital at 2 o'clock this morning following an injury received two days ago. Mrs. Martin fell Tuesday and broke her hip. She was taken immediately to the hospital and seemed to be resting comfortably but her condition suddenly grew worse early today. She was 83 years old and has been a resident of this community for the past 40 years.

Mrs. Martin's husband died January 31, 1928. Her home was on the Bethel college campus.

Children surviving her are a son, Ellison of Salina and three daughters, Mrs. E. L. Mackay of Great Falls, Montana; Mrs. J. B. Boehr, residents at the College campus and Alice, at home.

Funeral services will be held at the Duff and Son funeral parlors, the hour and date to be announced later as relatives are awaiting word from the daughter in Montana.

Mrs. Susie Martin Funeral

The funeral of Mrs. Susie Martin who passed away Thursday will be held at the Duff and Son Funeral parlors Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. J. W. Kliewer, pastor of the Bethel College church will have charge of the service. Entombment will be in Greenwood Abbey.

Susannah Martin—Obituary

Susannah Krehbiel Martin, daughter of Frederick and Magdalena Krehbiel, was born at Clarence Center, New York, May 16, 1850. She was one of ten children and grew to womanhood on the farm. She attended the Academy at Williamsville, New York, after which she engaged in teaching for several terms. She was married to Henry Martin of Clarence center, Dec. 11, 1879. To this union were born five children, three daughters and two sons. One son, Herman, died at the age of fourteen in the year 1897.

In March 1880 they settled on a homestead in McPherson county near Canton, Kans., where they resided until Sept. 15, 1893, when they moved to the Bethel college campus, Newton, Kansas.

In the spring of 1882 on confession of her faith Mrs. Martin was baptized by Rev. Christian Krehbiel and became a member of the Mennonite church at Halstead. There she retained her membership until she became one of the charter members of the Bethel College church.

She died July 20, 1933 at Bethel hospital as a result of an injury from a fall received two days preceding. She was a rugged pioneer mother, practical and hard working, devoted to her family and an earnest Christian. She was a great lover of the outdoors and enjoyed the various duties that lay there.

Children surviving her are a son, Ellison of Salina, and three daughters, Mrs. J. P. Boehr of the college campus, Mrs. Cora Mackay of Great Falls, Montana, and Alice at home.

There are also five grandchildren, Paul, Karl Herbert, Ruth and Rufus Boehr. Mrs. C. A. Yeomans and Miss Luella Krehbiel of Cottonwood Falls are nieces.

Rev. J. W. Kliewer conducted the funeral services at the Duff Funeral Parlors using as a text 2 Timothy 4: 7, 8, which was always a favorite scripture passage of Mrs. Martin.

A mixed quartet consisting of Karl Krehbiel, August Epp and Misses Sadie and Katherine Ratzlaff sang two beautiful selections "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Great Physician."

Entombment was in Greenwood Abbey.
