Obituary—John Kater

John Kater was born Oct. 14, 1872 in Germany. On Nov. 26, 1937 he answered the call of the Master when he peacefully took his leave of this life to join the immortal hosts.

Sept. 1, 1900 he was married to Miss Augusta Pruess. In 1909 the family came to America and settled in Kansas. At the time of his death he resided on a farm four miles southwest of Newton.

Mr. Kater had been suffering for some time and on Nov. 15 he was taken to Bethel hospital. On Nov. 10 he underwent an operation, which while serious seemed to result in no immediate danger. He failed to respond to treatment, however, and graduallly grew weaker to the end.

He leaves his wife, two daughters, Joanna, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. William Botterweck, Newton; three sons, John, Jr., Ontario, Calif., Alfred and Albert of Newton; a sister and brother, Mrs. Fred Eichorn and William D. Kater, Cedar Point. He also leaves a brother and sister in Germany, three grand children, many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Evangelical church here, Monday, Nov. 29, conducted by Rev. Paul J. Bode. A ladies chorus sang "I Can Hear My Saviour Calling," and "Do Sindet die Selle die Heimat die Ruhe,"—"Sometime We'll Understand," accompanied by Mrs. Edward Kater. Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery by Henry J. Sprinker of the Sprinker Mortuary.
