Franz Kasitz—Obituary

Franz Kasitz passed away Tuesday afternoon at the home of his only daughter Mrs. F. J. Kater near McLains, following an illness of many years duration. He was born at Baumgart, West Prussia, Germany, April 14, 1862, making him 71 years 3 months and 11 days at the time of his death.

He was married on May 29, 1888 in Erkrath, Rhine province, Germany to Henrietta Haag. God has blessed this union with eleven children, one daughter and ten sons.

In 1903 he immigrated to America and located with his family in Butler county near Elbing on the farm. Six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kasitz moved out to San Diego, California to seek a better climate in the hope of getting relief for his illness.

Mr. Kasitz was baptized in infancy and at the usual age was confirmed in the Protestant church of Germany. After he came to America he made the Immanuel's Evangelical church of Newton, his church home. Here he has been a faithful member, even while in California he kept up the duties of a member here, and when some months ago he and his wife came to live with their daughter it was a pleasure to have them again in the church.

Three sons have preceded him in death, Ferdinand and Karl while the family still lived in Germany, and Theodore after they arrived in this country. Besides his widow Henrietta Kasitz he leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Helen (Mrs. F. J. Kater) of near McLains; seven sons, Jake, Walter and Arthur of San Diego, California; Frank and August of Avon, South Dakota; and Will and Robert of Newton, Kansas. One brother Gottlieb of Benrath, Rhine province, Germany; one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Mull of Poolville, Texas and thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. A host of friends and the members of Immanuel's Evangelical church mourn the passing of a friend and faithful member.

The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of Frank Kater and at 3:30 at the Immanuel Evangelical church with Rev. F. J. Nisi officiating. The services were beautified at the church and grave by numbers rendered by the Mennonite male quartet from Elbing and a ladies quartet from the church. The casket bearers were T. Nelisson, B. Benedix, John Kater Sr., Wm. Kater Sr., G. Block and G. Mull. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery with Henry J. Sprinker in charge.
