Samuel (Sam) Guhr, 78, 2614 Rosewood Ave., in North Newton, lifelong carpenter, died Sunday (Jan. 3, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1920, in Walton to B. G. and Eva (Goertz) Guhr. He married Linda E. Ediger Dec. 8, 1946, at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church in Buhler. She survives of North Newton.
He was a member of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton. He was in Civilian Public Service for four years. He did voluntary service in Carson City, Nev., Gulf Port, Miss., and Topeka. He was a lifetime Newton resident.
Other survivors include: one son, Jim Guhr of Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Lynett Peters of Eminence, Mo.; four brothers, Adolf Guhr and Arnold Guhr, both of Newton and Milton Guhr and Otto Guhr, both of Potwin; two sisters, Rose Flaming of Peabody and Edna Stucky of Elbing; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe Guhr; and two brothers, Dan Guhr and John Guhr.
Graveside services will be at 4 p. m. Thursday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton. Memorial services will be at 7 p. m. Thursday at Faith Mennonite Church with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Friends may call from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with Faith Mennonite Church and Mennonite Central Committee in care of the funeral home.
