Aged Minister At Pretty Prairie Called to His Final Reward

WAS ONE OF THE ORGANIZERS OF CONGREGATION THERE; SERVED THIRTY-FIVE YEARS

Pretty Prairie, Kansas. — Rev. J. J. Flickner, a founder and for many years a minister of the Pretty Prairie Mennonite church, passed to his final reward Monday, Feb. 23, from an illness of pneumonia and other complications lasting about two weeks.

Born on Jan 1, 1857, at Horodisht, Russia, he reached the advanced age of 85 years. He was married in 1879 at Freeman, S. D., to Mary Saner, who preceded him in death.

In 1884 he and his wife were among the first 38 pioneer families who settled on the open country in the vicinity of Pretty Prairie. Together with these families he helped to organize the Pretty Prairie Mennonite church.

In 1885 he was ordained as minister and six years later as elder. Thirty-five years were spent in the active ministry.

Rev. Flickner is survived by two sons and three daughters.

Funeral services were held at the local Mennonite church and were attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives.
