William Bergh—Obituary

William Bergh passed away at his home at 124 West Seventh St., Friday morning July 21st following an illness of several years duration. Mr. Bergh was born November 9th, 1861 at Diekerch, Luxemburg, making him 71 years, 8 months and 12 days at the time of his death.

In 1883 he immigrated to America and located in Newton, becoming the owner of the largest cornice and metal works business ever conducted in this community. He was married in newton, on November 23, 1887 to Jeanette Dreyfuss. Two children were born to this union; Clara (Mrs. E. H. Overholt) of Milwaukee, Wes. and William Jr. of Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Bergh was known for his integrity and uprightness in business. He was a member of the Newton Lodge 142 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and the Newton Commandery No. 9 of the Masonic orders and was a faithful attendant as long as physically able. He was also a member of the M. W. A. lodge and also of the A. O. U. W.

Besides his wife, children and two grandchildren he leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Joseph Bergh, in Diekerch, Luxemburg, and Jean Pierre Berge in Cianden, Luxemburg and also a wide circle of friends and old settlers.

The funeral services were held at the Masonic Temple Monday with Rev. Frederick J. Nisi in charge. A male quartette composed of M. R. Stauffer, Birch Stuart, Francis Dunkelberger and John Getz sang two appropriate selections accompanied by Mrs. Birch Stuart. The service at the grave was conducted by members of the Blue lodge with the Knight Templars serving as escort. The following members of the Masonic order served as pall bearers: W. H. Evans, Frank Trouslot, Walter Trousdale, Birch Stuart, Roy Molzen and Clayton Lehman.

Burial was made at Greenwood cemetery with Henry J. Sprinker of the Sprinker Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.
