■ Ernest F. Bartel, 83, a retired farmer, died March 19 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. He was a member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater. Survivors include his wife, Edna; two sons, Fred of Dodge City and Dean of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Betty Frahm of Wichita; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ernest F. Bartel
Ernest F. Bartel, 83, of Newton died Tuesday (March 19, 1996) at Presbyterian Manor.
He was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Boyd, Okla., to Jacob Peter Bartel and Emelia Kliewer Bartel. He married Edna Velma Janzen on May 5, 1937, in Newton. She survives.
He was a retired farmer. He lived in Boyd, Okla., until 1918 and Turpin, Okla., until moving to Newton in 1976. He was a member of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater.
Other survivors include two sons, Fred of Dodge City and Dean of Montgomery, Ala.; one daughter, Betty Frahm of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p. m. Friday at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater with the Rev. James Voth of the church officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p. m. today and from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Thursday at Petersen's Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Presbyterian Manor and Grace Hill Mennonite Church, all in care of the funeral home.

NEWTON — Ernest F. Bartel, 83, died March 19, 1996, at Presbyterian Manor, Newton.
He was born Aug. 13, 1912, at Boyd, Okla., the son of Jacob Peter and Emelia Kliewer Bartel. A Newton resident since 1976, formerly of Boyd, Okla., and Turpin, Okla., he was a retired farmer.
