When about 16 years old his parents with their family moved to Butler county, near Eldorado, Kansas. He held true to his confession in the faith of Jesus Christ, as his Saviour and Redeemer, and was loyal in faith to his denomination unto his life's end.

February 19, 1899, he joined in holy matrimony with Lena Jantz, and they have shared joy and sorrow together for 42 years, 6 months and 27 days. their union was blessed with 8 children, 3 sons and 5 daughters, as follows: Mary, Mrs. Herman Eck, Moundridge; Elvina, Mrs. Charles Becker; and Minnie, Mrs. Frank Eck, Galva; Roy, Moundridge; Cecile, Mrs. Clinton Wedel, Walton; Alberta, Mrs. LeRoy Decker, McPherson; Orville, Sunnyvale, California, and Vernon, Moundridge, Kansas.
