Sarah H. Janzen

Sarah H. Janzen, nee Schroeder, daughter of John and Marie Schroeder was born Nov. 24, 1857 in Alexanderwohl, South Russia. In 1874 she migrated with her parents to America, where they settled in Kansas, not far from the present site of Goessel.

In 1876 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by the Elder Jacob Buller, and received as member of the Alexanderwohl Church. May 2, 1882 she was united in marriage with Jacob H. Janzen. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, of which one daughter preceded her in death.

Immediately after her marriage she with her husband made her home near Inman, Kansas, and transferred her church membership to the Hoffnungsau Church. In 1898 they returned to live in Alexanderwohl, and she again united with the local Church. In 1922 she with her husband moved to Moundridge, where she united with the West Zion Mennonite Church, of which she remained a faithful and an active member until the time of her departure.

December 29 she took sick, and her condition grew worse and developed into a case of double pneumonia, to which sickness she succumbed on Jan. 7. She had thus reached the age of 72 years, 1 month and 14 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, two children, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 21 grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives. — Moundridge Journal.
