Mrs. Mary Flickinger.

Mrs. Mary Flickinger, daughter of Jacob and Barbara Saner, was born March 27, 1852, in Wolinien, Russia, where she also grew up and received what little education was possible. In those days schools were nearly impossible, but parents made it a point to bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She was privileged to be raised under such influence and certainly hasn’t neglected to use her influence in directing her own and others to the Lord Jesus, our only Redeemer.

She was deprived of her mother through death at an early age. In 1862 she was admitted to the church of Horodisht, Russia, through baptism. She and her father and relatives joined the immigration to America in 1874.

Her first three years in America were spent in Logan Co., Ohio. Then they moved to Marion, South Dakota, where her father homesteaded a farm.

In 1879 she was married to Rev. J. J. Flickinger, to which union were born eight children, two sons and six daughters. Two daughters preceded her in death, Mrs. Henry Flickner, 14 months ago, and Mrs. F. F. Wall, 4 months ago. She shared hardships as well as contentment with her bereaved husband for 52 years and 27 days.

On Oct. 27, 1929, they enjoyed a beautiful golden wedding anniversary.

In 1884 they moved to Pretty Prairie, Kansas, with the group that originated the present Mennonite congregation. She remained a faithful member of the church until she was called to her reward. She attained an age of 79 years, 7 months and 27 days.

She leaves to mourn her death, her bereaved husband, two sons, four daughters, thirty-five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two brothers, John Saner of Murdock, and Pete Saner of Monroe, Washington, and a host of relatives and friends. — Exch.
