ELDER GERHARD PENNER (1836-1921). Rev. G. Penner was minister and elder of the First Mennonite Church near Beatrice, Nebraska, from its  beginning.  His father, elder of the Heubuden Mennonite church in Prussia, was one of the few Mennonite elders who gave up his home, his relatives and the largest part of his congregation and came to this country to remain faithful to a cherished principle. — Courtesy General Conf.
