We purchased a farm south of Canton where we raised our family and gave them Christian nurture. We were married 52 years and ten months. March 24, 1941, we were privileged to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. In September of the same year we left the farm and established a home in Goessel, where for about two and one-half years we lived sharing our joys and sorrows until her departure. Arranging our new home afforded her great pleasure. As wife and mother, she was always faithful, loving and cheerful. She often sang while at work, singing songs of praise and adoration to the glory of her Lord. She was always healthy and strong but in the latter part of December she suffered an attack of the flue. Her condition became serious due to other complications, and on January 2 was taken to Bethesda Hospital where, in spite of faithful and loving care by physician and nurses, she peacefully departed 8 A. Justina Epp, geborne Schröder, Tochter von Johann und Marie Schmidt Schröder, wurde geboren den 24. P. P. Buller amtierte. Ein Quartett sang: “There is No Disappointment in Heaven” und “Abide With Me.” In der Alexanderwohl Kirche leitete Rev. C. C. Wedel und Rev. P. A. Penner den Gottesdienst. Ein Männerquartett sang: “We Are Going Down the Valley” und “Does Jesus Care?” Ein gemischtes Quartett sang: “Asleep in Jesus.” Am Grabe diente Rev. J. E. Entz und ein Männerquartett sang.
Jesus meine Zuversicht.
In dem Pilgerland der Erde
In den Nöten und Beschwerden
In den Kämpfen und dem Ringen
Wie soll ich zum Ziele dringen?
Einer gibt mir Kraft und Licht:
Jesus, meine Zuversicht!
Geht mein Weg durch bitt’res Leiden
Muß ich von dem Liebsten scheiden
Leg ich weinend Staub zum Staube
O wie tröstet da der Glaube
Der des Grabes Nacht durchbricht:
Jesus, meine Zuversicht!
Wenn in Tal der Todeschatten
Einst mir Leib und Seel’ ermatten;
Wenn, was sichtbar ist, entweicht
Wenn der Erde Licht erbleicht —
Einer läßt mich ewig nicht:
Jesus, meine Zuversicht.
